I have only met a few persons with the same first name, and they tend to be around my age (I am 66). And the few I met were named for Perry Como, whom my mother adored way back then.
We also share a disdain (yes, a rather strong word) for the necessity of having an immaculate lawn. I have started writing my own thoughts on this very subject and just wanted to share my approval of everything that you wrote and how you went about it.
And howdy back at ya! I’m only slightly younger. (Less old? Nah, let’s go with the former!) My parents would never admit to any connection to Perry Como in the name choice, but I’ve always thought it slightly suspicious.
Glad you like the lawn bit. I’m pretty strongly in the “Can’t we treat the other creatures of the world nicely?” camp. Obviously, my Substack output is intermittent/variable. Not intentionally, but life has its ways of intervening, it seems, and I’ve got several irons in the fire, fighting on several fronts, etc., etc. I’ll be checking out your work, too. Toodles for now! Best wishes.
Whilst there are some fascist-types amongst us, I was pondering what I see as the universal human tendency to impose control, to eliminate the unwelcome (or just what one finds unpleasant), and to demand that the rest of the world’s denizens conform to our desires or needs. We cannot live without altering our environments. But, given our powers of intellect and possession of opposable thumbs, we incur a responsibility to self-limit which we often ignore. Sometimes we fail to properly consider the costs of eliminating discomfort and displeasure.
Hello fellow named Perry,
I have only met a few persons with the same first name, and they tend to be around my age (I am 66).

Perry,
Your delicious brilliance
shines light
on the fascism rising
in our land.
Your tour de force
devastates
the men without chests.
You expose
their phony unbeautiful lure
their obsession for control
their pleasure in cutting short
all tender green blades of life

It is good to encounter
awareness in realms
beyond one's own.
In re-reading your pondering
I see beyond my deep sea diver
psychological/political perception.
Your mind fascinates
as it ranges both deep AND wide.
You raise questions of responsibility
I have never considered
and do so via powerful metaphor.
"and it just might be that you like it that way"
exposes the true malignancy
